At our Fall Dinner Party, Robin Rankin presented our club with a unique challenge: ADDICTIONARY NON-Word of the Day Challenge (Open to all PC TM club members and their families). How to Play:
* Each member of Park City Toastmasters Club OR their family members are eligible to dream up a word they think perhaps should be in the English language, but isn’t. You can enter as many times as you like.
* Enter your submissions at http://www.addictionary.org
* Make sure you follow the instructions on how to register and enter your word. Very important!
* Come Monday afternoon, November 13th, all submissions must be received.
* The compilation of submissions will be revealed at our meeting Tuesday, November 14th; and at that meeting each Toastmasters member will vote by secret ballot for their two (2) favorite entries (but *cannot* vote for their own).
* Winner will be announced at our next Toastmasters meeting Tuesday, November 21st.
Prize: Winner will have their Non-Word and Definition memorialized on t-shirts, one of which every member of the club will receive. Every member of the Club must wear their t-shirt at that November 21st meeting; and the winner’s non-word will be used as the official Word of the Day that day. Deadline for NonWord Submission: Monday, Nov. 13, 2006 at 5pm
NOW: You voted, he swept it. Congratulations to our very own clever Ken Fisher who crushed the NON WORD CHALLENGE today with his hysterically funny word…Momopoly(noun) – A large gathering of moms that talk excessively about their children. Momopoly made the official non word of the day on www.addictionary.org. The photos are of his victory lap and the winner’s circle compliments of the FANTABULOUS Brenda Hall.
Robin wil send the group photo in to District 15’s newsletter to offer a challenge to the other clubs to beat the Park City Toastmaster’s official choice in a word-play challenge. They have their work cut out for them! Lynn brought a guest today who is planning on calling NPR to see if he can get us a mention on the radio show about language “In Your Words”. Robin thinks TM Mag will be very interested to cover what is going on in our little club!
Special mention to the runners-up: Jon Henry (accepting for his daughter) – magnifiscent; Lynn – hippotonia; Brenda – fantabulous; Ken again – leisureologist. Thanks from Robin again for playing – it was so much fun to duke it out online with fellow word afficionados!
