Got Word?
We Toastmasters are notorious word enthusiasts! At every meeting we use the “Word of the Day” as often as possible. In an entertaining twist, Park City challenged each other to a “Non Word of the day” contest, inspired by the new online site, www.addictionary.org. Member Ken Fisher came up with the winning word “momopoly”, a large gathering of women that talk excessively about their children. The contest was highly entertaining and drove membership to a new level (several guests signed up that day). See attached photos of the winner and the club.
In the spirit of spring competition, Park City is challenging all District 15 members to beat “momopoly”. The person with the winning non-word will win t-shirts with their non-word on it for everyone in their club and a series of special surprises at the District 15 Conference in Salt Lake City in May.
The contest runs from March 2 – April 2, 2007 on www.addictionary.org. Winners will be chosen by the District 15 Executive Team. There will be plenty of photo and PR opportunities for your club nationally at the conference and will be used as a challenge to all the Regions in May. The Addictionary has already received press for similar community contests in the Wall St. Journal and has become a category on the NPR Word Play Show “Says You!” Your word — if it wins — will be submitted and could air on an upcoming taping of Says You! (Says You! has a reach of 700k listeners!)
