We have our Fall Speech Contests fast approaching.
It is my desire that EACH of us have a role in the contest, either as a contestant, judge, timer, toastmaster, forerunner, or chief judge.
Missy, SueAnn, Amy, and Sheralynn will play a big part in running our contests – please approach any of us with questions.
The HUMOROUS contest will be on August 23rd.
~ The speech is 5-7 mn in length.
~ Substantially original material.
~ Any quotes must be identified as such.
~ Contestants can stay in the room for other speeches.
~ Subject chosen by contestant.
~ Must avoid objectionable language, anecdotes, and material.
~ Must be thematic (open, body, close) and not a monologue (series of one-liners).
Our club has produced two District Humorous Contest winners – Mike Hodge and Andy Cier, and one Division Contest winner (Andy).
The TALL TALES contest will be on September 6th.
~ The speech is 3-5mn in length.
~ Substantially original material.
~ Any quotes must be identified as such.
~ Contestants can stay in the room for other speeches.
~ Subject chosen by contestant.
~ Subject must be of a highly exaggerated, improbably nature and have a theme or plot.
~ Humor and props may be used to support or illustrate the speech.
Our club has produced a Division Tall Tales winner (myself, and I couldn’t attend the District contest in which I may have won that too) and an Area contest winner (Sue Ann).

The International Speech Contest Semifinal and Finals are held at the International Convention – August 15-18, Orlando Florida. The contestants must create an entirely new speech for the finals.
