On February 24th, 2009 our club conducted the International Speech Contest. 3rd place was Carlie Judd, 2nd place was Julio Garreaud, and 1st place was Jon Henry. Jon will go to compete in the Area Contest.
On March 5th, our Table Topics contest was held at the Park City Roaster from 6:30-8:30pm. 1st place was Dennis Hough, 2nd place was John Concannon, and 3rd place was Mark Seltenrich. Assuming the Area contest is on Saturday, March 21st, Dennis will not be able to attend. So John will proceed to the Area contest with Mark as the Alternate. It was an enjoyable contest. Lots of food. PC Roaster was a great place for it. Rob, the co-owner, let us station contestants in the office so they couldn’t overhear the responses and question. Judging was a very good experience; every member should be a judge – it is hard and a strong learning experience. All three judges gave feedback to every contestant after the contest was over – which the contestants really appreciated. Missy video recorded the contestants and will post the videos on Facebook. We had EIGHT contestants, one timer, and three judges. Everyone was encouraged to attend the Area, Division, and District contests.
