We had about 20 students participate this time around. Most of them wrote poems and a few gave speeches.
It was held again at the Summit County Library and we had about 35 people in attendance. Jo Henry entertained us with music while we enjoyed pizza and refreshments from 5:30-6:00. The Park City Toastmasters provided several judges and affirmation writers. Every student received two notes of affirmation regarding their presentation.
The spring version of YOUTHspeak will involve much more preparation and anticipation in the area of poetry. Last year’s spring YOUTHspeak had a more emotional and dynamic appeal as a result. We will expect the same kind of experience next spring from this batch of students. They will be exposed to high level poetry slam videos to observe how dynamic and emotional poetry can be. Last school year, this led to some very powerful presentations at this event.
This fall event helped expose students to what we are doing and got their feet wet regarding public speaking.
